Fragrance sales rose 2% last year to $4.5 billion, a subset of the $18.8 billion US prestige beauty industry, says The NPD Group. Artisanal fragrances grew at the fastest rate, over perfume and cologne. And here we are now, its 2020—and the entire fragrance distribution eco-system has basically shut down. "According to a report from McKinsey & Company, online savvy US Millennial and Gen Z consumers made nearly 60% of their beauty purchases in stores prior to the COVID-19 outbreak. Beauty counters went dark across the country—no more sniffing a spritz on a blotter or seeing a beautiful bottle in-person before making a perfume purchase" says Christine Esposito, Managing editor of Happi Magazine in her article titled "Inside Out". Even with sampling programs, great packaging design and designer brand names, the consumer's appetite for synthetic fragrance, alcohol based perfume, celebrity brands and glamour over wellness, the fine fragrance category is being challenged.
That's where we come in. What used to be an emerging category, "Clean Beauty", is now here to stay. Clean beauty is no longer a niche market. When we started ADORAtherapy in 2015, explaining aromatherapy, essential oil perfumery and how beauty on the inside was the not a trend but here to stay required heavy lifting.
When we started the company, we attended the New York Now show, Cosmoprof, the Atlanta Mart, Expo East & West, Spa Buzz. So many events! we found an audience and with a traditional sales approach through rep groups, showrooms and trade shows we grew to support over 500 retail doors including big box and specialty, prestige and masstige. But we were still doing missionary work. Green was the thing. Clean was yet to come. And selling scent online? That wasn't an option.
In 2015, we created the ADORAtherapy brand. Through my partnership with Adora Winquist, an intuitive healer and trained master aromatherapist, we looked at the essential oil and aromatherapy category and saw an opportunity to bring the arts of healing, breath work, life coaching and essential oil blending together to build an authentic brand.
We created ADORAtherapy to remind you to adore yourself! Designed to create scent rituals that shift and lift your mood. By creating aromatic formulas made with plant essences from around the world, we stimulate the senses and awaken the joys and passions of humanity.
