People We Adore: Cindy Barberes

Q: Tell us a little bit about you, your company and your company's mission.
A: I was in corporate for a long time. I knew when I left financial services, I really wanted to do something I could be passionate about, that I could sink my teeth into. It was important for me to create something that was real and tangible that would make people feel good.
To say I needed to decompress before I started my company is an understatement. I took six months and immersed myself in self-care, including mindfulness. I like to say that corporate was black and white, and then I discovered a lot of beautiful colors. The yellow that peace of mind can bring. The orange of relaxed confidence. All brought out through a commitment to self-care.
It was important for me when I started my own company to be able to give back to the community. I refer to H. Honeycup as “body care with a cause”. We have a family member who struggles with addiction, and we are creating clean beauty, so it makes perfect sense that we donate products to recovery centers. These individuals are trying to live a clean lifestyle, so we help in our small way. In fact, all of our products are designed for those who embrace clean living.
Q: What is your superpower? Tell us about a moment you recall that your superpower served you?
A: I developed a philosophy after leaving corporate eight years ago and starting my company. I call it “Instead of”.
• Instead of hearing NO, I hear YES.
• Instead of struggling, I ask for help.
• Instead of withdrawing, I join the conversation.
This philosophy continues to be the perfect reset for me whenever I need it. It helps me overcome “imposter syndrome” and every other challenge that I encounter.
Q: What are your rituals for self-care, healing or de-stressing? Is there a special place you go?
A: I closed my eyes to find my answer and there it was. I love the beach and find it the most beautiful, healing place. Walking on the beach, breathing the fresh air, soaking up the sunshine, smelling the ocean. It’s truly relaxing and rejuvenating at the same time.
Q: With which Chakra do you most identify and why?
A: The Heart Chakra. The most important thing in my life is the love I give and receive and the ability to show compassion. Although I’ve gotten better with age, I can say it’s something that requires ongoing effort. Sometimes it comes easy and often I need to consciously work on it.
