Not all perfumes should be sprayed! A Modern Guide on How to Wear Perfume.

Not all perfumes should be sprayed! A Modern Guide on How to Wear Perfume.

Ahhh, perfume! There is so much a spritz can do, from defining your signature style to unleashing sensual memories. And we won’t be exaggerating when we say it can be one of your beauty routine’s most intoxicating and playful moments. Most perfumes come in sprays. Easy as one two three. Push the top down and the perfume will aerosolize leaving a long lasting scent behind you and on you. But as perfume trends have changed from traditional to functional, synthetic to clean, has how we wear perfume and why caught up?

A Short History of Perfume

Since ancient times perfume bottles have been considered an art form and the container that held the perfume was considered as valuable as the perfume itself. From porcelain, gold, silver, shells, semi-precious stones to glass, where you stored your scent mattered.

“A perfume is a work of art, and the object that contains it must be a masterpiece,” Robert Ricci.

As scent preferences evolved perfume bottles were influenced by design and technology. From glass blowing techniques like Lalique to bottles featuring an atomizer, a late 19th-century invention that produces a fine spray from a liquid, the industry never stopped improving and inventing ways to use perfume.

Historically perfume was oil based and made with botanicals. Used in rituals it was as much about soul as scent. Later, perfume was meant to mask odor and alcohol and synthetic ingredients were added to meet demand and reduce costs.

The first atomizer nozzle was invented by Dr. Thomas DeVilbliss of Toledo, Ohio, in the late 19th century for producing a fine spray of a liquid based on the Venturi effect. Dr. Jules Bernard Montenier invented the spray bottle soon after. You can only imagine the happy dance when perfume went from a dab to a spray.

So it’s no surprise that today we have even more choices, from scent pens to the handy roller ball, from natural to functional. We are always excited about applying scent.

But where should scent be applied, why and how?

The Body

Who doesn’t want a full body experience? Perfume can be expensive so the industry created Body Sprays, a less expensive version of perfume that can be applied everywhere. From sticky and fruity commercial scents from brands catering to the masses, to more sophisticated ritual sprays with active botanical ingredients like ADORAtherapy’s Room Boost Collection, when spraying on the body apply after bathing or showering. Mist from the top of the head and focus on letting the droplets fall onto your hair for maximum staying power. If applied when dressed be careful to notice if you are wearing fabrics that can be affected like silks and cashmere.

Body Oils have become popular again. Finding one that has a dry finish over an oily finish is key so that you can get dressed soon after. Adoratherapy’s New Chakra Body oil comes in seven scents, one for each chakra, a great way to play with scent on every part of your body. Apply to your palm and rub onto your seven chakras for maximum healing. Or focus on areas that are dry or on the neck for a lighter scent experience you will enjoy first and foremost unless you invite someone to get a little bit closer.

Lotion candles are a new option, a candle that when melted is applied on the body. As with any product applied to your skin, your largest organ, look for natural formulations with minimal chemicals and additives. Before bathing light the candle and let it melt into a small pool of liquid. Blow the candle out and pour the warm liquid into your hands. This is the ultimate spa at home experience. When the fragrance used is organic and blended for a therapeutic benefit like Adoratherapy’s Chakra Lotion candle collection, you will feel like a goddess.

The Neck

Every perfume ad has made the neck a symbol of passion and pleasure. Spraying on our neck is like a mini strip tease. The rest of the body is usually covered but our neck is exposed. Being kissed on the neck is not only romantic but playful and even the most discrete lovers will indulge in neck foreplay. Most people spray their most expensive perfume on their necks as a gesture of preparedness, scent being the last step in dressing. Some people are heavy sprayers, other light ones. You do you! Adoratherapy offers both spray and roll on options. Your neck is closest to your heart and throat chakras so treat this area with tender loving care.

The Pulse Points.

Pulse points are the areas of the skin closest to your blood vessels, such as your wrists, the inside of your elbows, the back of your knees, behind your ear lobes, and the sides of your neck. Since the pulse points are naturally moist and warm, the body heat acts as a natural scent diffuser. So, dab your chakra boost perfume on your pulse points to truly enjoy the functional ingredients and the sophisticated fragrance blends like Clarity Chakra Boost with tulsi, frankincense and myrrh, or Tranquility Chakra Boost with lavender, rosewood and cardamon. When you use chakra boost perfumes your mood will be pleasantly dictated by your perfume as you work on your root, sacral, solar plexus, heart, throat, third eye and crown chakras.

“Experience the power of uniquely formulated organic essential oils and absolutes to heal and balance your moods.” That is what ADORAtherapy is all about!

It is here that you will find the best chakra perfumes. No synthetic fragrance, no phthalates or parabens. Just handcrafted, alcohol-free goodness in as many options as you desire.

Add ADORAtherapy chakra boost sprays, roll ons, body oils and lotion candles to your fragrance collection and heal your moods!
